Oh what a couple of weeks its been, around the 3rd of July i hurt my shoulder i was fairly confidant that it was an inflammation type injury or tendinitis so i rested it no gym etc before i was due to start 3 weeks of training..... well i was on the mend so went to clipper gosport on 3rd august to start training i was assigned to Serco a previous clipper yacht and 60' long as i settled in and met the of clipper adventurers and my skipper and first mate for the week Jan and Ollie i began to realize that all was not well with the injury i was getting pins and needles down my arm and i started to concern myself that as it was not fully recovered that i might set my recovery further back... i had been advised that for this type of injury 6-8 weeks was normal recovery i was not yet 4 weeks. So i pulled myself from training, i can not described how this effect me or how i felt i was through the floor.
I had not been properly assessed for the injury i was in denial and was trying to convince myself fit so in the time i have been back i have had it assessed by a fitness/health professional and the good news is that it was inflammation/impingement injury and as far as they can tell no rota cuff tears i am now on rehab and tomorrow start light gym to try and get fit again after all a yacht is not the place for rehab.
So what now well i have e-mailed clipper to see if the dream is still on and whether there is further training available obviously as the race starts 16th september it won't be on the race yachts but hopefully training can be organised on the 60' so i sit here with fingers crossed hoping its still on all be it set back until i fit. If its a no go i will then have to look to the '09 race and look forward to that.....as a rugby player said this week "i don't do doubt" so i have now acquired a positive mind set and look forward to being fit....my old grandad use to say things happen for a reason so i have relaxed and now will reset the agenda and work to my goals.
live in peacex
