good news, good news, good news !!!

Oh what a relief i saw the shoulder guy last week for the results of my MRI scan and there was/are no tears in the rota cuff muscles there is evidence of my ongoing bicep injury in the biceptial grove which is something i ave had for 7 years and is manageable he felt that i had inflamed my joint and then had continued to train i bench over 300lbs and lower pulls for 400lbs had resulted in a shoulder impingement, rest, ice and rehab is now making get strides in recovery now back in gym and training to 70% so touch wood all is good and have now booked to do my training for the 7th novenber for 3 weeks....really feel i can start looking forward to all this again have also been looking at flights and accommodation in Jamaica looks expensive but can live on boat when crew change over date arrives.. so what next well going up to the the race start weekend the boat Qingdao is being named 11.ooam on 15th by the local Chinese community dragons and everything so should be fun and then staying at the Marriott, very expensive for the night the watch the race start... really looking forward to meeting my crew mates the RTW's and in particularly leggers doing 7 so far i have spoke on the phone/email so as the catch phase seems to be lets have a cheeky half looking forward to havin a cheeky half with them and the skipper Marcus.
until next time
love and peace and go Qingdao go Qingdao !!!

INJURY UPDATE !!

Well what can i say things seem to be improving but i have to be careful not to delude myself i thought by now i would of been for the results of my MRI scan however apparently they are pretty busy so i don't see the specialist until 29Th for my results ! rehab is going well doing my rota cuff exercises with almost religious zeal i also have been doing light gym all exercises i would normally do just light i am pretty sure not in pain but somethings not quite right and concerned about the inflammation however each day sees an improvement so it might be i need to be patient not very good at that ! it is so frustrating i cant use my dinghy so all i can do is stay in contact with Qingdao crew keep dreaming and wet my lips with anticipation.
Booked my hotel for race start w/e went for the Marriott in the end expensive but what the heck looking forward to meeting everyone just hope I'll be on the boat when it leaves Jamaica.
love and peace x

disaster !!!!!

Oh what a couple of weeks its been, around the 3rd of July i hurt my shoulder i was fairly confidant that it was an inflammation type injury or tendinitis so i rested it no gym etc before i was due to start 3 weeks of training..... well i was on the mend so went to clipper gosport on 3rd august to start training i was assigned to Serco a previous clipper yacht and 60' long as i settled in and met the of clipper adventurers and my skipper and first mate for the week Jan and Ollie i began to realize that all was not well with the injury i was getting pins and needles down my arm and i started to concern myself that as it was not fully recovered that i might set my recovery further back... i had been advised that for this type of injury 6-8 weeks was normal recovery i was not yet 4 weeks. So i pulled myself from training, i can not described how this effect me or how i felt i was through the floor.
I had not been properly assessed for the injury i was in denial and was trying to convince myself fit so in the time i have been back i have had it assessed by a fitness/health professional and the good news is that it was inflammation/impingement injury and as far as they can tell no rota cuff tears i am now on rehab and tomorrow start light gym to try and get fit again after all a yacht is not the place for rehab.
So what now well i have e-mailed clipper to see if the dream is still on and whether there is further training available obviously as the race starts 16th september it won't be on the race yachts but hopefully training can be organised on the 60' so i sit here with fingers crossed hoping its still on all be it set back until i fit. If its a no go i will then have to look to the '09 race and look forward to that.....as a rugby player said this week "i don't do doubt" so i have now acquired a positive mind set and look forward to being fit....my old grandad use to say things happen for a reason so i have relaxed and now will reset the agenda and work to my goals.
live in peacex

saturdya 28/07/2007

its been a week since my last entry, its been a busy week and i have been buying clothing and sailing gear for my 3 weeks training which starts on 03/08 i herad from clipper HQ and all is booked etc so its now very exciting i have done a little sailing but i have never been on a boat or number of boats for 3 weeks so that will be interesting. still not ssure how i will manage with my leg but that is what the training is all about my first thoughts are that when on deck and on duty and under sail i will wear my artificila leg as this has more articilation and a proper foot for grip (note i must some pics on here) and when down stairs off duty or on mother watch (cooking cleaning etc) i will wear my peg leg which is more comfortable or hop around i guess time will tell. things still left to buy shorts, boots and deck shoes.
i know we are all looking forward to having a summer at some point but one of my cocerns is that the azors high gets set and that august has no wind that would be horrible as i like it windy and hate motorsailing but i guess it will be what it will be.
untill next time
be safe

This is my blogg i intend to record my adventure on here by script and photo it starts to day and will encompass not only my training but my adventures, feelings and thought on the way it will be personel and to be used as a diary. I have no idea how this adventure will pan out as i write this i have been accepted to compete in the clipper round the world race where 10 identical boats will race each othher around the world with stopovers 7 leg in all crewed by amatures i am not sure they will be amatures by the time they finish i have signed up for leg 7 racing in4 races from the carribean to new york to halifax to jersey to liverpool the finish i dont know how many miles this is i dont know if i can do it but i do know i am so excited it hurts.
I start my training on 03/08/07 and hoping to meet some of the rest of the crew/team then from the team website i am delighted to be part of this team and boat Qingdao from the round the island race the other week it looks as though it will be a competitive boat cos i like to race and be competitve although fun must be high on the agenda.
As a first entry i shold tell you something about me i am 45 yrs old a chief immigration officer i am/was a disabled athlete i have had my left leg amputated through knee and am mobile by the use of an artificial leg a peg leg and hoping have been known to be called hopy.
I currently weight train/power lift, scuba dive(dive master) sail a dingy and have qualified as a RYA day skipper with some sailing in the english channel and south coast.
I will post some pictures when i sort them and hope to keep doing so as things progress.
I have to say i am extremely jealous of the RTWorlders and am giving some serious thought to 2009 just need a lotterey win.
